Citygate Church began in 1997 in a local school’s drama studio with just a handful of people.
In 2002, with just fifty members, Citygate miraculously purchased major town centre premises in Beckenham, positioning the Church to build the kind of impact in the community they have today.
Citygate is seen by many as a pioneering church in aspects of faith, relevance, excellence and community engagement. The influence of Citygate in London is rapidly gaining momentum. Each year, Citygate hosts various events which attract people from many different areas of society, from the education sector to the business arena.
In 2007 Citygate was presented with an award by the London Metropolitan Police for their contribution towards making Bromley a safer place, through their work on a local housing estate.

Citygate is committed to a strong set of Values which determine the culture and practices of the church, from their community involvement to the style of their services. Julian and Sharon Melfi have been in full time ministry since 1991. After pioneering and co leading a church in London for five years and subsequently launching into a travelling ministry, Julian and Sharon joined with Christian Outreach Centre and planted Citygate Church in 1997.
Julian and Sharon are committed to radically transforming the world in any and every way they can! Julian is known for his radical faith, his humourous style, his commitment to the Word of God, his passion to influence the world with the relevant message of Jesus Christ, and his desire to see the local Church rise up in all aspects of excellence to be a blessing to the community. Serving on local committees and hosting local Community and Business events, Julian is a respected leader both within Christian Outreach Centre and across SE London.
